Smart mobility

Mexico

  • Smart mobility in the cities requires federal policies, state and municipal policies that take into account new technologies, and the needs of cities and their inhabitants.
  • Not only do we need smart mobility at a country level for reasons of sustainability and equality, but also the inclusion of ICTs, Big Data generation, and public dissemination.
  • Mexico City has pushed cycling and bike-sharing as an option over the past decade.

LATAM

  • Unlike many other regions in the world, Latin America is still very much reliant on traditional forms of public transportation such as buses, trains, and subway systems.
  • The topic of Smart Urban Mobility is becoming more important in Latin America because of managing dense traffic environments in the major cities.
  • Shared mobility has the potential to reduce mobility costs and congestion by encouraging less private vehicle reliance and use and more multi-modal transportation including active modes, such as bike-sharing and scooter sharing.
  • Many young commuters find it less important to own a car and instead opt for on-demand transportation services such ride-hailing, also known as eHailing.
